Pearl is the birthstone for June. Pearl is a dense lustrous concretion (a hard usually inorganic mass formed in a living body) formed within the shell of certain mollusks. Most pearls you will find today are actually cultured pearls and grown on pearl farms. This means that a human inserts a piece of mantle tissue, a bead or a grain of sand into the flesh of a mollusk.
Colors - rose, silver/white, cream, gold, blue/gray and black.

Alexandrite
Alexandrite is an alternate birthstone for June. It is from the mineral chrysoberyl (kris-oh-bare-ul). It is a "color change" gemstone meaning that it changes color depending on the type of light it is displayed under. It is a very rare and costly gemstone, even more than diamond. Because of its rarity we typically use synthetic alexandrite when making family jewelry set with birthstones.
Color - (daylight) - very strongly bluish green through yellowish green.
Color - (incandescent light) - orangy red through purple-red.
